Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By creating a HandTrail account or using HandTrail, you agree to these Terms of Use and to the HandTrail Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create or use a HandTrail account.

You must also be legally permitted to use HandTrail in your location and capable of agreeing to these Terms.

If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use HandTrail only with any additional permission or supervision required by applicable law.

You may not use HandTrail if doing so would violate applicable law or another legally binding restriction that applies to you.

3. Your account

You are responsible for maintaining control of your HandTrail account and for activity performed through it.

You must provide accurate account information and must not impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity or use HandTrail to deceive other players.

You may not sell, transfer or share access to your account in a way that undermines HandTrail's safety, ownership or gameplay systems.

4. HandTrail gameplay

HandTrail is a social game in which virtual objects move through real-world player interactions and build an ongoing journey.

Gameplay may include:

• Nearby Passes;
• Direct and Public Drop-Offs;
• Rescue;
• Discover;
• Trail Finder;
• Chains and challenges;
• Trail XP and progression;
• achievements, streaks and accomplishments.

Rules, availability, rewards, timing requirements and eligibility may differ between objects, challenges or gameplay modes.

5. Location-based gameplay

Some HandTrail features require foreground device location to verify that players or objects are physically near a required area.

You agree not to falsify, manipulate or spoof location information or otherwise attempt to bypass proximity rules.

Location verification is a game mechanic and does not guarantee that a location, person or situation is safe.

6. Virtual objects and game value

Unless HandTrail explicitly states otherwise, HandTrail objects, Trail XP, achievements, Chains, rarity, progression, virtual rewards and similar game elements have value only within the HandTrail experience.

They do not represent cash, stored monetary value, securities, ownership of physical property or a guaranteed right to payment.

HandTrail may change gameplay balance, rarity, rewards, progression rules or availability when reasonably necessary to maintain or improve the service.

7. Passing and object movement

HandTrail is designed around objects continuing to move, but movement is driven by real players.

HandTrail does not guarantee that an object will:

• continue moving;
• reach a destination;
• complete a Chain;
• visit any particular location;
• be passed within a particular time;
• retain a particular rarity or game status.

Objects may stall, become eligible for Rescue, enter recovery or otherwise change state according to HandTrail's gameplay rules.

8. Chat and user content

HandTrail may allow you to send messages or other content to players for the purpose of coordinating gameplay.

You remain responsible for content you submit.

You may not use HandTrail to send or distribute content that is unlawful, threatening, harassing, fraudulent, exploitative, sexually abusive, discriminatory, invasive of another person's privacy or otherwise harmful.

You may not use chat to solicit sensitive personal information, facilitate dangerous meetings or misuse information learned through HandTrail.

9. Prohibited conduct

You may not:

• spoof GPS or falsify proximity or movement;
• duplicate, steal, improperly transfer or manipulate virtual objects;
• exploit bugs or race conditions to obtain unauthorized ownership, rewards or progression;
• artificially farm XP, achievements, Pass Score or other progression;
• bypass inventory, timer, Rescue, Drop-Off or Chain rules;
• access another player's private information or account without authorization;
• probe, attack, overload or interfere with HandTrail systems;
• use automated systems to abuse the service;
• use HandTrail for fraud, harassment, stalking, threats or unlawful activity;
• encourage others to violate these Terms.

10. Blocking, reporting and moderation

HandTrail may provide tools to block or report other players.

We may review reports and account activity when reasonably necessary to protect players, enforce these Terms, investigate abuse or protect the integrity of the game.

HandTrail may restrict features, suspend accounts, remove access or take other reasonable action where we believe an account has violated these Terms or presents a safety, fraud, abuse or integrity risk.

11. Chains, challenges and rewards

Chains, challenges, milestones, achievements and other reward systems are game features.

Eligibility may depend on verified movement, gameplay history, timing, anti-abuse rules or other conditions.

HandTrail may reject or reverse rewards obtained through fraud, spoofing, duplication, exploitation or other prohibited conduct.

12. Account deletion

You may permanently delete your HandTrail account from:

Account deletion removes your active account and account-linked private state as described in the Privacy Policy and Account Deletion page.

Because permanent object journeys are a core part of HandTrail, de-identified historical journey information may remain after account deletion.

An eligible object you currently hold may be released into HandTrail's recovery system rather than destroyed when your account is deleted.

13. HandTrail intellectual property

HandTrail and its software, branding, artwork, interface, game systems, text and other HandTrail-created materials are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

These Terms give you a limited right to use HandTrail for its intended personal gameplay purposes. They do not transfer ownership of HandTrail intellectual property to you.

You may not copy, sell, reverse engineer, redistribute or commercially exploit HandTrail materials except where applicable law expressly permits it.

14. Service availability and changes

HandTrail is an evolving service.

Features may change, become unavailable or require maintenance. HandTrail does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

We may modify or discontinue features when reasonably necessary for safety, security, legal, technical or product reasons.

15. Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by applicable law, HandTrail is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

HandTrail does not guarantee the conduct, identity, reliability or safety of another player. You are responsible for deciding whether, where and how to participate in an in-person interaction.

HandTrail does not guarantee that location data, maps, distance estimates, directions, landmarks or other geographic information will always be exact, current or error-free.

16. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, HandTrail will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

17. Changes to these Terms

HandTrail may update these Terms as the service evolves.

If changes materially affect your rights or obligations, HandTrail may provide additional notice through the app or another appropriate method.

The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version.

18. Operator and applicable law

HandTrail is operated by Scott Savage.

These Terms are subject to applicable law. Nothing in these Terms is intended to remove consumer rights or protections that cannot legally be waived or limited.
